Digital ‘right to be forgotten’ will be made EU law
For literary readers this article makes me think of Winston Smith!
European proposals to build trust in online services could mean that social networks including Facebook and Twitter will have to comply with users’ requests to delete everything they have ever published about themselves online. It could also mean companies having to delete data held about consumers at their request.
The new laws, which will take up to two years to implement, could have real implications for new technologies, helping organisations to improve the delivery of services and will depend upon cooperation amongst search engines.
I am not sure how this will impact on the increasing use of the internet to deliver services in remote places – perhaps not much at all – but it was too quirky a story to leave out of Hinterland!
