Channel 4 begins a series tonight about Young Farmers – have a look at it – I think it will contain some food for thought. This article shows how a rather middle aged looking minister is planning to get down with the youth culture. It tells us that young people are being encouraged to tweet about the barriers they face entering farming with a view to 5 of them being invited to meet David Heath MP.

This is a serious issue and just one of a number of challenges farmers across England have been networking about. We are just beginning a piece of work for the Royal Agricultural Society to identify farmer networks, their roles and activities – please let us know about any networks you are aware of by responding to our evidence call here.

Local authorities have had a key role in underpinning the viability of a number of the networks we already know about and we will be happy to share our findings with you if you are interested.
