Shed of the Year contest reveals what men REALLY get up to at the bottom of the garden

The shortlist for the hotly-anticipated Shed of the Year awards has been released – with some of the jaw-dropping entrants including a Millennium Falcon, an old fashioned saloon bar and even a boat.

From today 32 of the UK’s most outrageous sheds from Limerick to Hackney are to battle it out in order to be crowned of Shed of the Year – and voting is now open for the public to decide on the eight category winners.

The shortlist boasts sheds themed around everything from Star Wars to crocodiles, hydraulics to Viking hideouts, 360 degree rotating floors to nuclear bunkers – and everything in between.

The eight categories are Eco, Unexpected, Pub and Entertainment, Workshop and Studio, Unique, Cabin and Summerhouse, Historical and Budget.

Finalists will then appear on hit TV series ‘Amazing Spaces Shed of the Year’ which will air on Channel 4 this summer with the overall winner to be revealed in the finale.

Selected by a panel of shed experts including the founder of the competition, Uncle Wilco (Andrew Wilcox), George Clarke and his expert team, craftsman William Hardie, architect Laura Clark and industrial designer Max McMurdo, the winner will receive £1,000 courtesy of sponsors Cuprinol along with a plaque, £100 worth of Cuprinol products and a giant crown for their shed.

Public voting to determine the category winners opens today at www.readersheds.co.uk. The public will have until midday on June 8 to cast their vote on who they think deserves the winning title of Shed of the Year, along with a winner for each category.
