‘Bumper year’ for daddy longlegs as insects continue to invade homes for next few weeks
Spider season is upon us and apparently the warmer-than-usual weather during late summer has left homes with an influx of large crane flies (or ‘daddy longlegs’ to you and me). Entomologists expect the invasion to continue for the next few weeks. On the one hand, more daddy longlegs will provide much needed food for the birds and spiders that feed on them; on the other hand, there could be an increase in the number of territorial fights between the species. More information about the insect is available from the Amateur Entomologist Society. Are you a spider hugger or phobic about them? As spiders were around for millions of years before us I think we’ll have to learn to live with them (even if it’s from a distance).
