Cabinet office ‘to appoint cat called Cromwell as Chief Mouser’
Ralph my Jack Russell could do this job without the fractious outcome – he’d eat the other cats featured in this article….
The Cabinet Office is reportedly set to adopt a cat in order to tackle its mouse problem.
The Chief Whip, Gavin Williamson, reportedly told Steve Back, a political photographer, that it was likely the new cat would be called Cromwell.
Mr Back said: “The Chief Whip was going into Number 10 and Larry was on the doorstep. He said ‘Oh, there’s Larry!’ and came to speak to me.
“He said we are thinking of getting a cat in the Cabinet Office. I asked what they were thinking of calling it and he said ‘Cromwell’ in a tongue-in-cheek manner – but it seemed he had the name ready.”
‘Cromwell’ will join Larry, Number 10’s Chief Mouser, Palmerston, the Foreign Office’s Chief Mouser, and Gladstone, the Treasury’s Chief Mouser.
Gladstone’s appointment was announced just last week, amid reports of vicious fighting between rival felines Larry and Palmerston.
A spokesperson for the Cabinet Office told The Telegraph they are “looking into it” at the moment, but there is nothing else they can add at this stage.
