Mayor charged with assault after telling off teen for stamping on flowerbed
I remember my hero Brian Clough getting into a spot of bother in his last days as manager of Nottingham Forest for punching a youth who despise significant warnings to keep of it ran onto the pitch.
More people cheered than felt in any way irritated by his actions. This story about a mild case of daffodil rage from someone who was a victim of persistent garden vandalism falls into he same category. It does have a more important message however about how individuals and communities react to people taking responsibility for protecting their neighbourhoods. Our Rural Insight Survey (profiled last week) suggested that rural communities were good at sorting out issues like this through community peer pressure rather than recourse to the law in every case.
An interesting reflection in the current wide ranging debate about structural approaches to saving money in terms of the administration of justice?
