Scouts scale Snowdon to light Paralympic Flame

Its summer, its raining, Olympic flames are being lit on misty mountain tops, the pythonesque madness unleashed by the Olympic opening ceremony is now stalking the land as this article reveals – thank goodness for Sir Humphrery Davy…..

“Climbers, including some boy and girl scouts, started the flames at the summits of Snowdon in Wales, Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scafell Pike in England and Northern Ireland’s Slieve Donard.

Thick mist blanketed the summit of Snowdon where the scouts lit a fire using twigs, cotton wool and a flint and steel, before members of the torch team used it to light their flame. The fire was also used to light flames in miners’ safety lamps to ensure the torch remained lit whatever the weather.”
