Technology allows increasing number of people to identify birdsong
With the weather improving, many Hinterland readers will hearing ‘The Dawn Chorus’ supposedly starting in the early hours from March, reaching a crescendo in May, and lasting until June. Now, the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) said that in the past most people would have been able to identify the most common songs. In contrast the more recent generations find it more difficult to know how to identify any song beyond the obvious sound of the cuckoo and the wood pigeon! But this article highlights how this is all changing thanks to new technology. A number of apps, such as lovebirds and Bird Song Id allow users to play birdsong on their phones so they can begin to learn how to identify each bird.
