The green belt cannot be frozen ‘in aspic’, Owen Paterson says
I thought things got pickled in aspic. Owen Patterson is a controversial figure. I do agree fully with the sentiments he expresses here however
The countryside cannot be frozen “in aspic” and must be built on, the Secretary of State for the Environment has said.
Owen Paterson said that the Government’s planning reforms are “clear” on building on the green belt arguing that it was important to build “living communities.”
Mr Paterson refused to say that the amount of protected green belt land would not decrease under the current government.
His words echo David Cameron’s advice that Conservatives should shop opposing countryside planning reforms because the changes will help today’s young people get on in life.
The Prime Minister said that the changes to the planning system will allow people to “achieve their dream of home ownership”.
