City deals, one year on: how the pathfinder cities have fared
These deals seem to have made relatively little progress and to have netted large eye catching resources from Government. They make me reflect it is high time we recognised the importance of rural hinterlands and the rural economy.
Defra have been able spend some modest resources through the growth review and specifics like rural growth networks but I fear as always the attention is on the same old places. It would be good if the regeneration needle which is stuck in that same old city centric groove was moved somewhere else more imaginatively at some time in the future. The summary of what has happened in each city is too long to quote directly but you can access it by clicking here.
