George Stubbs kangaroo and dingo paintings saved for Britain after £1.5m donation
A painting of a kangaroo-cum-mouse and a burly dog, in the style of my step-daughter age 12 have been saved by the nation. They were the first representations in the UK of these elements of Australian mega fauna by the man who couldn’t paint horses – Stubbs. Still no worries they have only cost the price of a library service in a small local authority.
Seriously I have no real problem with this but it does make you reflect in these troubled times, where our actual priorities in terms of that wonderful abstract notion “the public good” lie.
